After nearly 9 years as a dialysis patient, Bill had kidney transplant surgery! Thanks to a kidney donor, Bill received a new healthy kidney. He credits the American Kidney Fund and its donors for saving his life. Night after night, Bill completed hours of dialysis while also carrying out the roles as Head Coach of the Petersburg High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team, active father, full time Athletic Director and devoted husband. Bill's kidney disease was inherited from his late father, William "Bill" Lawson, Jr.
Today, there are almost half a million (500,000) dialysis patients in the United States and nearly 100,000 of them are on the waiting list for a kidney (American Kidney Fund). Thirteen (13) people living with kidney failure die everyday waiting for a kidney (American Kidney Fund).
